Heading to Pont-Saint-Esprit in the Occitania part of Provence is often an opportunity to admire the remarkable port which gave its name to the town, its priory, the seventh Clunisian one, or its exceptional refurbished municipal wash house. At the crossroads of four departments and three regions, the town has enjoyed a special situation since the Middle Ages. Another architectural gem forms a connection between the old high town and the lower town is also worth a visit: don’t miss the monumental stone staircase overlooking the Rhône quays. Built in the middle of the 19th century, it is both of economic importance, since it allows access to the river port to transport and commerce coming from the Rhône Valley, and is also a foundation for the Church and Priory. Weakened over time, its restoration has been selected by the Stéphane Bern Mission. By selecting these assets to revitalise its territory, alongside several listed buildings which have been turned into cultural spaces, and the rehabilitation of its old centre, Pont-Saint-Esprit is a vibrant, dynamic town where people enjoy living and visiting.
